Construction of novel MoS2@COF-Ph heterojunction photocatalysts for boosted photocatalytic efficiency and hydrogen production performance under sunlight

Abstract: Heterojunction photocatalysts have been regarded as effective materials for photocatalysis. In this paper, because of peculiar structure and characteristics of covalent organic frameworks(COFs), a novel nano-MoS2@COF-Ph heterojunction photocatalyst was...

“…Antibiotics are increasingly employed in human society as industrialization advances. , Tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH), a broad-spectrum antibiotic with phenanthrene nucleus, is widely used to treat bacterial infections in humans and to promote the growth of animals as an animal-feed additive . However, due to overuse and inappropriate emissions, the continuous accumulation of TCH in natural water bodies poses a significant hazard to the biological environment and human health .…”

“…As shown in Scheme 2(b), when CTF-1-G and WS 2 combine to construct the heterojunction, both CTF-1-G and WS 2 can be excited to produce photogenerated electrons and holes under visible light irradiation (eqn (2)); meanwhile, the holes in the VB of WS 2 recombine with the electrons in the CB of CTF-1-G. Z-type charge migration resulted in strong reducing electrons accumulating in the CB of WS 2 (−0.78 eV), and strong oxidation holes were retained in the VB of CTF-1-G (2.18 eV). Thus, the electrons in the CB of WS 2 can react with dissolved oxygen molecules in aqueous solution to generate ˙O 2 − (eqn (3)), 41 which was further reduced to H 2 O 2 and ˙OH (eqn (4) and (5)). 14,18,56,57 In contrast, the h + in the VB of CTF-1-G cannot oxidize OH − , further evidence that the ˙OH in ESR was from the multi-step conversion of ˙O 2 − (eqn (5)).…”

“…38,39 Since Yaghi's discovery of boronic acid bonded COFs in 2005, 40 a number of COFs have been designed with triazine, imine and double bond structures. 41,42 Covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) belong to a class of COFs that contain aromatic rings connected with triazine rings. Due to the presence of the CvN-bond, CTFs exhibit high thermal and chemical stabilities.…”

“…In a recent work in 2022, an innovative nano‐MoS 2 @COF‐Ph was prepared by in situ hydrothermal synthesis of MoS 2 nanospheres from the Mo & S precursors with the as‐synthesized COF. [ 67 ] The charge separation in a Z‐Scheme pathway was further enhanced as a cooperation of the π ‐conjugation system of the COF and the special configuration of the heterostructure. The heterostructure shows a photocatalytic HER activity of 7.2519 mmol h −1 g −1 after content optimization, under irradiation of λ > 420 nm visible light.…”
