SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to describe the occurrence of self-reported olfactory and taste disorders in non-hospitalized Brazilian adults who presented severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2 infection symptoms and attended primary health care. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was based on a routine standardized diagnostic screening questionnaire applied in a Brazilian primary care facility. The olfactory and taste disorder occurrence was compared between severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2-positive and severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2-negative cases and described by age and sex. RESULTS: Severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2-positive patients had a higher proportion of self-reported olfactory and taste disorders, as compared with severe acute respiratory syndrome-negative (50.7%, vs. 20.6%, p<0.0001). Of all individuals with self-reported olfactory and taste disorder cases, 69% presented both olfactory and taste impairments, 13% olfactory only, and 17% taste only. In severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2-positive cases, the frequency of olfactory and taste disorders was significantly higher among females as compared with males (71% vs. 34%). Additionally, people with olfactory and taste disorders were significantly younger in the severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2-positive group. CONCLUSION: Self-reported olfactory and taste disorders are highly common among non-hospitalized severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2-positive Brazilian people who attended the Family Health Care Unit. The co-occurrence of both self-reported olfactory and taste disorders was more frequent than self-reported olfactory or taste disorders alone.

“…Em meio às dificuldades que as reduções ocasionaram, várias experiências brasileiras ilustraram alternativas profícuas para a manutenção da assistência (GIOVANELLA et al, 2020) A diminuição de equipes cadastradas a partir de 2020 pelo Previne Brasil, impactando no quadro de profissionais e usuários acompanhados (MATTOS; GUTIÉRREZ;CAMPOS, 2022;SANTANA et al, 2022), a suspensão de incentivo financeiro e as alterações nas práticas de saúde tensionaram o processo de trabalho na APS (ARCE; TEIXEIRA, 2022) e, por conseguinte, ecoaram na atuação fonoaudiológica (LIMA; GARCIA; AMARAL, 2021). Objetivo: Descrever a distribuição espacial e temporal da oferta de fonoaudiólogos na Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS) e de atendimentos individuais e atividades coletivas no Núcleo Ampliado de Saúde da Família e Atenção Básica (NASF-AB) e os impactos com a pandemia de Covid-19 nas Unidades da Federação (UFs) do Brasil entre 2016 e 2021. Método: Estudo ecológico, descritivo, com dados secundários, no qual foram calculadas taxas de fonoaudiólogos na APS e de atendimentos individuais e atividades coletivas no NASF-AB. As taxas foram representadas espacialmente em mapas coropléticos, com Análise Exploratória de Dados Espaciais pelo software QGIS. Foi verificada a evolução da oferta das taxas entre 2019 e 2020 e realizada a análise descritiva dos tipos de atividades coletivas registrados. Resultados: Observou-se variabilidade nas taxas ao longo dos anos, com maiores desempenhos nas UFs das regiões Nordeste e Sudeste e menores amplitudes nas UFs da região Norte. Entre 2019 e 2020, houve declínio nacional na evolução das taxas, acompanhado por reduções mais expressivas no Ceará (-16,82%), para a oferta de fonoaudiólogos na APS; no Acre (-93,99%), para os atendimentos individuais; e em Roraima (-97,20%), para as atividades coletivas. O atendimento em grupo foi a atividade coletiva predominante no Brasil, enquanto a mobilização social foi a menos exercida. Conclusão: Os resultados apontam discrepâncias na oferta das taxas de fonoaudiólogos na APS e de atendimentos individuais e atividades coletivas no NASF-AB e singularidades na distribuição dessas atividades entre as UFs. A pandemia ocasionou efeitos acentuados nas ações de fonoaudiólogos no NASF-AB.

Construction and validation of an informative handbook on speech-language-hearing therapy in primary health care

Purpose: to develop and validate an informative handbook on the role of speech-language-hearing therapy in primary health care. Methods: handbook development was preceded by a bibliographical survey for the theoretical framework. Validation consisted of two stages, with respectively 10 and eight speech-language-hearing judges in the first and second ones. An online questionnaire with 14 statements on content, language, illustrations, layout, and motivation assessed the material, scoring it with a 5-point Likert scale of agreement. It also had room for suggestions. The quantitative analysis was performed with two measures: Content Validity Index and Content Validity Coefficient. Values below 80% indicated the need for revision. The qualitative analysis was based on the judges' comments. Results: in the first stage, despite obtaining satisfactory indices, the qualitative analysis revealed aspects to be improved. The handbook’s “Content” and “Language” were adjusted, and it was resent to the judges for further review. In the second stage, the quantitative analysis revealed increased agreement rates for most of the investigated items. Conclusion: the validation stages had high approval rates, indicating that the handbook may be used as a guide for speech-language-hearing practice in primary health care.
