Construction Worker Fatigue Prediction Model Based on System Dynamic

Abstract: Abstract. Construction accident can be caused by internal and external factors such as worker fatigue and unsafe project environment. Tight schedule of construction project forcing construction worker to work overtime in long period. This situation leads to worker fatigue. This paper proposes a model to predict construction worker fatigue based on system dynamic (SD). System dynamic is used to represent correlation among internal and external factors and to simulate level of worker fatigue. To validate the mod… Show more

“…Previous studies have no agreement on the workload limit based on RHR for an 8-hour workday. For example, 24.5% for cyclists, 14 30% for teachers, construction workers, 17 22 1.5 MAWT, roughly corresponds to 33% of RHR, for Korean workers 4 and construction workers, 18 30%–40% for construction workers. 13 For this study, we defined overwork as a workday in which RHR for workday is more than 30% following some of the previous studies.…”

“…The assessment aims to identify if workers are not fit for work due to the risk of adverse impacts of ill-health, injury, accidents or fatality [ 2 ]. The construction industry represents high risk for workers’ safety compared to other industries, due to its dynamics on site activities and complex settings; with labor-intensive characteristics [ 3 , 4 ]. The scaffolders, steel fixers, form workers, electrician plumbers, concreters and other manual handling labourer are often categorized as workers with physically demanding and exhausting job that are prone to work fatigue [ 5 , 6 ].…”

“…The construction sector is the most dangerous when compared to other industries since it is relying on workers as its primary resource. 1 Job work fatigue is a prominent cause of occupational accidents and disorders among construction worker who operate in physically and psychologically demanding situations. 2 The World Health Organization has clearly defined fatigue as a workplace problem.…”
