In this study, the contactless power transmission system to supply intermittent power to the railway vehicle equipped with energy storage device is assumed. The maintenance cost reduction is expected compared to linepantograph charging method. In order to reduce the amount of energy storage device and loss in the converters, the combination of static and dynamic power transmission are assumed. The configuration of air-core ground coil and using core in the onboard coil are desirable to reduce the installation costs. However, due to the decrease of coupling factor, the input current and the secondary compensation current will increase, which limit the transmission power. In addition, the transmission power is also affected by the turn number of ground coil and the resonant frequency. The scaled down experimental system is utilized to reveal the maximum transmitted power and its limitation of the dynamic contactless charging method.
