“…High concentrations of Cr, Cd, Co, Pb, Cu, Zn, and Ni were reported in spinach, cabbage, radish, and forage grasses when grown on sewage sludge-amended soils [ 208 , 209 ]. Similarly, the wastewater-induced increased accumulation of PTEs by vegetables than the allowable level by EU standards has been reported in Harare-Zimbabwe [ 205 ], Bejing-China [ 20 ], the industrial zone of Faisalabad-Pakistan [ 210 ], Varanasi-India [ 187 ], and Peshawar-Pakistan [ 70 ].…”

“…24 Contamination of soil and water with heavy metals such as lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and mercury (Hg) is an environment issue on a global scale and becoming increasingly significant as a result of the increase of heavy industries. 25,26 Cobalt ions (Co 2+ ) are a significant, water soluble heavy metal contaminant. In trace amounts they are an essential element in human biology with roles including as a component of cyanocobalamin (vitamin B 12 ) and cobalt-containing co-enzymes.…”

“…Quite recently, it has been noticed that the main crops of the Mardan region have been significantly affected by the HMs due to fast-growing industrialization (Amin and Ahmad 2015). The study was further confirmed by Hussain et al (2013), who showed that the people of Mardan and nearby areas are exposed to HMs through consumption of contaminated vegetables, especially S. lycopersicum.…”
