Continuous charge management scheme for TianQin

Abstract: TianQin is a proposed Chinese space-borne gravitational wave detection mission, which will consist of three Earth-orbiting spacecraft in equilateral triangle constellation. Due to the ``3 months on + 3 months off'' observation scheme, the continuous scientific observation period of TianQin is much shorter than LISA, it is highly preferred that other on-board operations, such as charge management, will not interrupt gravitational wave detection. This paper presents a torsion pendulum system on the ground to inv… Show more

“…Since UV LEDs are packaged with TO-39, T j is not easy to measure, so E v cannot be obtained directly by Equation (7). As the case temperature T c will be monitored by temperature sensors in CMSs, T j can be replaced by measurable T c .…”

“…It uses controllable UV beams to illuminate the surfaces of inertial sensors, exciting photoelectrons and controlling their flow through a local electric field, thereby removing residual charges without contact [6]. The overall effect is equivalent to connecting an invisible wire to maintain an equal potential state [7].…”

“…However, it’s also sensitive to variations in photoemission parameters and light intensity, so periodic recalibration may be required, but the specific implementation of this method involves calibrating numerous compensation coefficients, which can be quite intricate. To address this issue, Pi X. et al [ 86 ] proposed a convenient calibration method based on linear estimation in 2023, that can greatly improve the efficiency of the compensation coefficient calibration, thereby reducing the difficulty of the adaptive discharge method implementation and making it more feasible. However, in general, the technology still needs to be verified in real orbit.…”

“…Researchers have devised a charge management method known as 'power compensation', which is an open-loop control approach that does not rely on the feedback of charge values from the charge measurement stage [38,39]. Currently, more charge management methods involve closed-loop control, and charge measurement is the core function.…”
