Contraception practices among young unmarried women seeking abortion following unintended pregnancy in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Abstract: The aim of this study was to explore and describe contraception practices among young unmarried Vietnamese women seeking abortion after an unintended pregnancy. “…Traditional gender norms make it difficult for Vietnamese women to communicate with male partners about sexual behaviors (e.g., condom use) as they are supposed to be submissive in sexual activities ( 48 ). For example, findings of a study among unmarried women seeking abortion in Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam showed that premarital sex was viewed as a commitment to maintain a relationship with boyfriends who also have strong influence on using contraceptives including condom use ( 49 ).
