“…Parotid metastases are also reported synchronously with the initial presentation of the patient and metachronous years after the primary diagnosis [12] as in our case, after 6 years of being disease-free. Metastases below the clavicle are mostly from renal, lung, and breast carcinoma [13].…”

“…Nevertheless, an appropriate parotidectomy with negative margins and with preservation of the facial nerve when possible is preferred. Superficial parotidectomy was successful in providing local control in most cases [12]. In our case, the deep lobe of the parotid was involved and total parotidectomy inevitable.…”

“…Parotid gland metastasis of breast cancer diagnosed on fine needle aspiration cytology: case report and review of literature DOI:10.1111/cyt.12108 Dear Editor, Metastatic tumours to the parotid gland are uncommon and metastasis from breast carcinoma is extremely rare. To our knowledge only 16 cases have been reported so far, [1][2][3] in four of which fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of the parotid was helpful in making the diagnosis (Table 1). [3][4][5][6] Similarities between ductal carcinoma of the salivary gland and metastatic breast carcinoma, including immunoprofiles, make it difficult to distinguish with certainty metastasis from a second primary in this context.…”

“…In our patient and in the previously reported cases, superficial parotidectomy has been successful in providing local control. [17] From the limited cases that have been reported, parotid surgery does not seem to improve life expectancy, and the management of a parotid metastasis is considered to be palliative, regardless of the treatment method. [18] The prognoses of these patients are often dismal, with a 5-year survival rate of only 10%.…”
