Contrast characteristics of sub-mesoscale eddies in satellite ocean color data in the region of Tumen River inflow into Peter the Great Bay

Abstract

The contrast characteristics of sub-mesoscale eddies in the area of the Tumen River outflow into the Peter the Great Bay (Sea of Japan / East Sea) are analyzed from satellite ocean color data (remote sensing reflectance spectra and estimates of the concentration of chlorophyll-a). It was shown that during the study period, the contrast-to-noise ratio based on the calculation of the concentration of chlorophyll-a using bio-optical algorithms have greater values compared to the contrasts calculated from sea surface temperature data. The spectral ranges of the best contrast-to-noise ratio and the depth of formation of the satellite image of eddies are also determined.
