Contrast‐enhanced sonography of a hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing spontaneous necrosis

Abstract: Spontaneous necrosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is rare. We report the case of a 72-year-old woman with an HCC nodule that underwent necrosis after sonographically guided needle biopsy. Baseline sonographic examination revealed only a nonspecific change in the echogenicity of the lesion. Subsequent necrosis was suggested on contrast-enhanced sonographic examination and was confirmed on spiral CT.
