Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Improves the Accuracy of the ACR TI-RADS in the Diagnosis of Thyroid Nodules Located in the Isthmus

Abstract: Objectives To evaluate the diagnostic performance of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Thyroid Image Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS), contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), and a modified TI-RADS in differentiating benign and malignant nodules located in the isthmus. Methods This retrospective study was approved by the institutional review board. Informed consent was obtained. Grayscale ultrasound (US) and CEUS images were obtained for 203 isthmic thyroid nodules (46 benign and 157 malignant)… Show more

“…Micro calcifications and characteristics with a taller than wider form demonstrated good applicability, nevertheless. 19 Furthermore, Salmaslioglu et al, discovered that the presence of micro calcifications had a susceptibility of 91.3 % for malignancy in other research involving 549 individuals with nodules goiter. 12 The absence of flexibility had the best diagnostic performance in the current meta-analysis.…”

“…Huang et al 77 evaluated the efficacy of CEU combined with ACR TI‐RADS in the diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules, and upregulated the malignant nodules suggested by CEU on the basis of the original ACR TI‐RADS classification, indicating that the benign nodules were downregulated. The results showed that the sensitivity and specificity of the combined diagnosis of malignant thyroid nodules were significantly improved, and it had suggestive significance in the diagnosis of thyroid nodules.…”

“…CEUS can be applied non-invasively in real-time and continuously evaluate the perfusion of the microvessels in thyroid nodules under high frequency US ( 14 ). Studies have shown that the combination of the TI-RADS classification with CEUS significantly improves the diagnostic accuracy of thyroid nodules ( 15 , 16 ). However, CEUS enhancement features for thyroid nodules has still not been fully implemented with the TI-RADS system.…”
