Contrasted metamorphic and structural evolutions across a major ductile/brittle displacement zone in NW Connemara, western Ireland

Show more

“…1); its hanging wall is largely concealed by post-deformational Silurian strata. The secondreferred to as the Renvyle-Bofin Slide-corresponds to the northern outcrop boundary of the Dalradian Supergroup at Connemara and has a demonstrated top-to-the-north normal shear sense (Boyle and Dawes 1991;Clift et al 2004;Wellings 1998). However, the RenvyleBofin Slide probably is a smaller structure relative to the postulated detachment below the Silurian unconformity (Clift et al 2004).…”

“…1; Leake et al 1983); it carries the Dalradian metasedimentary package and the Connemara complex in its hanging wall, and juxtaposes these units southwards against greenschist facies metarhyolite of the Delaney Dome Formation in the footwall (e.g., Draut and Clift 2002). The shallowest structures are normal faults (e.g., the Renvyle-Bofin Slide, Boyle and Dawes 1991;Clift et al 2004), which are exposed north of the antiformal crest.…”
