Contribution of Caspase-8 Genotypes to Colorectal Cancer Risk in Taiwan

Abstract: Background/Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the role of caspase-8 rs3834129 polymorphism on colorectal cancer (CRC) risk in Taiwanese CRC patients and healthy controls. Materials and Methods: The caspase-8 rs3834129 (-652 6N insertion/deletion) polymorphic genotypes were analyzed in 362 patients with CRC and the same number of age-and gender-matched healthy subjects. The interaction of caspase-8 rs3834129 genotypes with personal behaviors and clinicopathological features were also examined. Results: T… Show more

“…Biologically, the del genotype has been reported to destroy a stimulatory protein 1 binding element in the promoter regulatory region, leading to decreased caspase-8 transcriptional activity and eventually suppression of T lymphocyte apoptosis (45). There were also some studies reporting no association between the genotypes of caspase-8 rs3834129 with various types of cancer, for instance, the oral and colorectal cancers in the Taiwanese population (31,48). This is the first study evaluating caspase-8 rs3834129 polymorphism in bladder cancer susceptibility in the Taiwanese population, however no significant association ANTICANCER RESEARCH 39: 4767-4773 (2019) 4770 was found.…”

“…Collection of 362 CRC cases and 362 controls. The investigated population has been recruited as described in our previous studies (9)(10)(11)(12). Concisely, CRC cases have been recruited at the outpatient clinics of general surgery by well-trained colleagues.…”

“…MMP-1 rs1799750 genotyping methodology. The genomic DNA from peripheral blood leukocytes of all participants were extracted and stored at -80˚C as previously published (9,10). The MMP-1 rs1799750 genotyping methodology is the same as previously reported (17,19).…”
