The present work investigates the impact of SiO2 nanofiller on the electrochemical properties of gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) composed of PMMA/PLA-LiBOB. The study encompasses two distinct systems: PMMA/PLA-LiBOB (System I) and PMMA/PLA-LiBOB-SiO2 (System II). Nyquist plots were generated to analyze the samples' bulk resistance (Rb), and it was found that Rb value shows a decreasing trend with the incorporation of SiO2. The ionic conductivity increases from 1.69×10-6 S cm-1 to 1.37×10-3 S cm-1 at room temperature, with the highest composition achieved at 6 wt.% of SiO2. Dielectric properties revealed that the addition of SiO2 nanofiller led to the enhancement of dielectric constant (ε′) and dielectric loss (ε″), attributed to SiO2 nanofiller with high orientation polarizability and space charge polarization effects. Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) measurements from both GPE samples are 4.1 V (System I) and 4.7 V (System II). Comparative electrochemical performances of the batteries assembled in System I and System II were conducted, demonstrating the superiority of System II in terms of stability and cycling performance. The differential capacity analysis further supported the enhanced electrochemical activity upon SiO2 nanofiller incorporation.

In the present work, varying silica nanofillers (SiO2) compositions were successfully introduced into PMMA/PLA-20%LiBOB amorphous gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) systems. FTIR analysis unveiled subtle alterations in wavenumber shifting and intensity at several highlighted peaks, indicating the occurrence of molecular interactions within the GPE. XRD analysis revealed a notable reduction in crystallinity, particularly up to 6 wt.% SiO2, implying that the presence of nanofillers influenced complexation ability and amplified amorphous regions. Meanwhile, TGA analysis confirmed that the 6 wt.% SiO2 sample exhibited the least mass loss, affirming its exceptional thermal stability and proved the increase in ionic conductivity until the maximum value of 2.19×10-3 S cm-1 for samples up to 6 wt.%. The TNM testing resulted in a notably high lithium-ion transference number, which indicates the practical viability of this composition for application in lithium-ion batteries and provides promising enhanced electrochemical performance.

In this study, 2 wt.% to 12 wt.% of silica nanofiller (SiO2) compositions were incorporated into PMMA/PLA-20%LiBOB gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) systems and were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and transference number measurement (TNM). FTIR analysis showed slight changes in wavenumber shifting and intensity at the highlighted peaks, indicating molecular interactions have occurred in the present GPE. From the TGA analysis, the sample with 6 wt.% of SiO2 exhibited the least mass loss, confirming that it is the most thermally stable sample in this current study. The increasing ionic conductivity in samples up to 6 wt.% (2.19 × 10− 3 S cm− 1) after SiO2 was added might be due to the properties of SiO2 that act as a bridge to promote more ions complexation towards the polar polymeric chains. Through this study, it can be deduced that the sample with 6 wt.% of SiO2 has the most optimum behavior and it was chosen for TNM testing. Based on the TNM analysis, a high lithium-ion transference number (tLi+=0.79) was observed, indicating that this composition is practical for application in lithium-ion batteries.
