Contribution of the Life and Earth Science Subject to the Promotion of the Mother Language

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to show how Life and Earth Science, Environmental Education, Hygiene and Biotechnology (LESEEHB) can contribute to easing the practice of mother language. For this, field and indoor activities were carried out. In the different regions of Cameroon, many native languages are interchangeable. At the end of the two months of work, a significant improvement in the mastery of the mother language is noticeable. The involvement of the mother tongue in the daily practice of the LESEEHB subject greatly improves the performance of students. This was surprisingly noticed for many other subjects too. As for the practice of the mother tongue at home, from the 925 parents interviewed, 224 are personally involved in monitoring their children; 400 confide the accompaniment of their children to tutors; 212 entrust the accompaniment of their children to their elders; 89 think that children must try alone. This practice is based on a highly interdisciplinary approach.
