Control of Brushless Direct-Current Motors Using Bioelectric EMG Signals

Abstract: (1) Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the analysis of measurements of bioelectric signals obtained from electromyographic sensors. A system that controls the speed and direction of rotation of a brushless DC motor (BLDC) was developed; (2) Methods: The system was designed and constructed for the acquisition and processing of differential muscle signals. Basic information for the development of the EMG signal processing system was also provided. A controller system implementing the algorithm… Show more

“…The method of switching the current in an electromagnet using an electronic commutator is called a Brushless motor because it has no mechanical brush. The Brushless motor driver is composed of a driving section, a control section, a detecting section and a power supply section [7][8] .…”

“…Recently, with the development of semiconductor technology, there have been many successful studies in developing EMG sensors that are increasingly compact, consume less power, and are more accurate [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. For example, in study [7], the authors implemented a highfrequency and low-power sEMG signal acquisition system.…”

“…Many studies were conducted on many aspects, such as control relating to its energy consumption [6] and its angular position control [7]. Relating to its speed, the two most controlled variables of a DC motor involve its speed and rotation direction, as reported by Glowinski et al [8]. Speed controlling is very important in the application of DC motors, so that has attracted researchers to work in it, for example, by Tapia-Olvera et al [9], Alejandro-Sanjines et al [10] and other published works.…”
