Control of polymer properties by melt vibration technology: A review

Abstract: This paper reviews the technology of melt vibration (more specifically at low frequency) to reduce viscosity during processing of plastics and to enhance mechanical px-formance of the solidified parts. The effect of vibration frequency and amplitude on melt viscosity is explained in terms of shear-thinning criteria. The effect of pressure and temperature on shear thinning is also reviewed to predict how these variables interfere with melt vibration. Practical applications of the principles of melt vibration ar… Show more

“…At low pressure poor transmission of energy takes place, and consequently, fabric color strength does not ability to the appropriate akin and the fiber acclimatization is as well not maintained due to abridgement of constraint. Under acceptable pressure, fibers are aseptic from shrinking and loosing acclimatization consequently, application the fiber strength and announcement able bonding [16]. …”

“…A detailed review on various vibration technologies is given by Ibar. 24 It has been noted that the mixing in a vibration field could improve the homogeneity, and hence the mechanical properties of blends. 24,29 Among the extensive studies on PP as well as its blends, investigations on the blends of PP/ UHMWPE are meager.…”

In the present work, a novel internal mixer capable of vibration blending is introduced and is used to modify PP with UHMWPE.…”
