Control of ultracold atoms with a chiral ferromagnetic film

Abstract: We show that the magnetic field produced by a chiral ferromagnetic film can be applied to control ultracold atoms. The film will act as a magnetic mirror or a reflection grating for ultracold atoms when it is in the helical phase or the skyrmion crystal phase respectively. By applying a bias magnetic field and a time-dependent magnetic field, one-dimensional or two-dimensional magnetic lattices including honeycomb, Kagome, triangular types can be created to trap the ultracold atoms. We have also discussed the … Show more

“…-The existence of stable 2D SA solitons, including VRs, in a binary BEC formed by two atomic states φ ↑,↓ , resonantly coupled by the magnetic component H of the MW field, was predicted in ref. [33]. The respective system of scaled GP equations for φ ↑,↓ and the Poisson equation for H are [34]…”

“…The finding reported in ref. [33] is that eqs. ( 27) are exactly invariant with respect to a boost transformation, from the quiescent reference frame to one which moves, in the 2D plane (x, y), with vectorial acceleration a = (a x , a y ), combined with a constant velocity, V = (V x , V y ).…”

“…Therefore, the skyrmion-based magnetic traps can be easily reconfigured and moved by modern spintronics techniques, which will be advantageous for practical applications. If fact, it has been proposed that several types of magnetic lattices for ultracold atoms can be constructed from the stray field of chiral ferromagnetic film in skyrmion lattice phase [19].…”
