Background: Health care facilities are responsible for preventing and controlling diseases and must have sufficient resilience to deal with crises. Iranian health care facilities have faced challenges in managing COVID-19. The purpose of this study was to identify the challenges to the resilience of Iranian health care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic and to provide appropriate solutions.Methods: This qualitative study was conducted with a phenomenological approach and using semi-structured interviews with 59 managers, policy makers, health system experts, and faculty members. The participants were selected through snowball sampling. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data.Results:The resilience challenges of Iranian health care facilities were classified into eight groups: leadership and management; planning; organizational culture; organizational learning; employee management; customer management; resource management; and process management. The most important resilience challenges were: lack of an integrated management system; poor leadership; incompatibility of the management system and the network structure; lack of a national program; poor case detection program; lack of resources; inefficient information system; negative attitude of managers and employee; organizational inertia; failure to build on lessons learned from crises; lack of workforce preparedness; lack of community-based management; declining social capital; and lack of oversight. Managers must use community-based, evidence-based, and integrated management to build resilience against COVID-19, have sufficient knowledge and experience to organize operations, use appropriate and effective coordination models, develop a creative and participatory culture, reengineer structures and processes, and provide the necessary resources. Conclusion: Iranian health care facilities face challenges that prevent them from becoming resilient, responsive, and efficient in managing COVID-19. It is essential that policy makers and managers take the necessary steps to address these issues.

Iran was one of the first countries to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The onset of the pandemic coincided with the serious ongoing economic problems that Iran was facing and which have seriously impacted the lives of Iranians. According to official statistics, there were about six million infections and 130,000 deaths due to COVID-19 by December 2021. Quarantine, social distancing, and other health protocols had an adverse impact on mental and social health. Vulnerable groups, including children, women heads of households, the homeless, drug addicts, and the disabled were at higher risk. Although initially governmental and non-governmental organizations were not prepared to manage the pandemic, overtime serious efforts were made to implement innovative measures in the areas of education and mental health service provision. Economic conditions in Iran have adversely impacted all these measures. The authors discuss Iran's experience with COVID-19 focusing on the health, social, psychological, and economic factors and draw lessons from these experiences.

BackgroundThe COVID‐19 pandemic has compelled governments globally to formulate policies addressing the unique needs of their populations. These policies are critical in disseminating accurate information and enhancing health literacy during crises.ObjectiveThis narrative review aims to identify and assess effective information and health literacy policies implemented during pandemics.MethodsA comprehensive literature search was performed across five electronic information sources (PubMed, Science Direct, ProQuest, Emerald Insight, Scopus), supplemented by Google Scholar. The analysis employed Walt and Gilson's health policy triangle framework to categorize and evaluate the findings.ResultsThe review revealed that the policies could be grouped into several key categories: educational programs, laws and regulations, knowledge sharing, national programs, and different information sources. The development of these policies involved multifaceted processes influenced by political, scientific, economic, cultural and social factors, as well as the involvement of multiple stakeholders.ConclusionsThis review offers significant insights and actionable recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders. By understanding the dimensions and components of effective information and health literacy policies, stakeholders can better prepare for and respond to future pandemics and similar health crises.
