Controllable Crystallization Behavior of Nylon-6/66 Copolymers Based on Regulating Sequence Distribution

Abstract: Based on retaining the excellent properties of nylon-6 (PA6), nylon-6/66 copolymers (PA6/66) with well-controlled dimensional stability and toughness exhibit more potential applications. In this work, PA6/66 random copolymers were synthesized by melt copolymerization of ε-caprolactam and hexamethylene adipamide salt. The sequence distribution, crystal morphology, crystal forms, and melting and crystallization behavior of PA6/66 copolymers were systematically investigated by quantitative 13C NMR, polarized opt… Show more

“…This happened because the BAEA/AA segments ruined the symmetry and regularity of the polymer chains for the PA6 copolyamides and raised its intra-crystalline defect. A similar result was found in the crystallization behavior of most of the copolymers (i.e., the crystal size reduced), which indicates that the PA6 with the BAEA/AA structure was non-isomorphous [ 15 , 22 , 42 , 62 ].…”

“…The T m o values of the copolyamide decreased sharply from 259.1 to 196.7 °C, indicating that the BAEA/AA segment may restrict the crystal growth of the PA6 backbone to form a tapering in crystal thickness, which is consistent with the WAXD results [ 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 ]. It is noteworthy that two different dependencies between T c and T m (peak I and peak II corresponding to Figure 3 a,b) were observed using the Hoffman–Weeks method, which implied that the crystal growth of peaks I and II corresponded to the thermodynamically stable α-form and unstable γ-form, respectively [ 25 , 35 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 ].…”

“…In recent years, PA6-based copolymers have been widely studied from both scientific and technological perspectives, owing to their remarkable properties. Inserting co-constituents (such as comonomers, stereoisomers, branches, and organic and/or inorganic fillers) can yield PA6 copolymers with interesting physical and mechanical properties [14]. The crystallization of the PA6 copolymer is strongly affected by the presence of a second component.…”
