Controlled Growth of Aligned Polymer Nanowires

Abstract: We have developed a one-step method to fabricate large-scale polymer nanowire (PNW) arrays of any organic materials, with a good control over the density and length. The PNWs are formed by ion etching a polymer film that is covered with a thin layer of metal nanoparticles, which serves as the "mask" for creating the surface roughness required for creating the PNWs. Our study demonstrates an effective approach for creating functional organic NW arrays for applications in sensors, electronics, biomaterials, and … Show more

“…When Eu 3+ located in a site with inversion symmetry, the 5 D 0 → 7 F 1 transition is dominating. Conversely, the 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition is dominating in an asymmetric site [28,29]. Therefore, it can be deduced that Eu 3+ ions occupy the lattice sites without inversion symmetry in ZnWO 4 host lattice.…”

“…For the water-based TENGs, water remaining on the surface can severely degrade the output characteristics and operational stability by statically screening triboelectric charges on the surface [41][42][43][44][45][46]. To overcome these issues, vertically aligned nanowires, which make superhydrophobic and water-repellent surface, were formed on the PTFE films by means of inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching [47]. Fairly uniform and vertically aligned PTFE nanowires were confirmed in scanning electron microscope (SEM) images ( Figure 1c).…”

“…More technical details of the etching could be seen in other relative works. 3, 18 The surface structure will largely roughen the surface and thus magnificently increases the contacting area of the polymer and water. 19 So the friction process will be more sufficient between the polymer and water, which will generate more charges in the friction process.…”
