Controlled Hydrothermal Synthesis of Thin Single-Crystal Tellurium Nanobelts and Nanotubes

Abstract: Thin single‐crystal tellurium nanobelts and nanotubes have been created by the hydrothermal disproportionation of Na2TeO3 in aqueous ammonia solution, without the presence of any catalysts or templates. It appears that tellurium nanobelts with a helical pitch can be coaxed into chiral nanotubes under these conditions, presenting the promise of a new nanotube synthesis route (see Figure).

“…Thus, for a special purpose to develop a more convenient and rapid way for synthesising Bi 2 Te 3 nanostructures is sorely required. During the past decade, low-cost and less hazardous direct wetchemical route has been used to synthesise some nanostructures, such as films, nanorods, nanowires and nanobelts of oxides, metals, semimetal, alloys and other compounds [22][23][24][25]. Furthermore, the two-step Te template-directed synthesis is one of the most popular strategies for the fabrication of telluride nanostructures and uses N 2 H 4 .H 2 O as a common reducing agent [26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34].…”

“…As reactions were most probably occurred in aqueous solution, solvent-thermal growth method was well known as hydrothermal growth method. It is a simple, reliable and effective www.intechopen.com Synthesis, Self-assembly and Optoelectronic Properties of Monodisperse ZnO Quantum Dots 219 method in synthesizing nanomaterials with different shapes under low supersaturation and mild conditions [16,[76][77][78]. ZnO QDs [41][42][43] as well as other nanostructures, such as nanowires, nanorods, nanotubes and other special shapes [79][80][81][82][83], has been fabricated using hydrothermal growth method.…”
