Controlling the oxidation state of molybdenum oxide nanoparticles prepared by ionic liquid/metal sputtering to enhance plasmon-induced charge separation

Abstract: MoOx NPs, prepared by sputtering Mo metal on a room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) followed by heating in air, produced anodic photocurrents with the excitation of their LSPR peak.

“…Different from untreated MoS2, there are additional doublet peaks at 229.9 and 233 eV in Mo 3d spectrum of hydrophilic MoS2, corresponding to Mo 4+ peaks of Mo-O bonds. 41,42 Additionally, to prove the existence form of oxygen atoms in hydrophilic MoS2, the XPS spectra of O 1s peaks for both hydrophilic MoS2 and untreated MoS2 on p-type silicon substrates were analyzed. (Fig.…”

“…It should be noted that, in the case of noble metals, secondary growth processes were mentioned for dispersions of Au [ 115 , 118 , 138 , 140 , 143 144 167 , 183 , 189 , 195 ], Ag [ 131 , 164 , 185 , 196 ], and Pt [ 185 ] NPs. When metals such as Ti [ 179 , 197 ], Cu [ 117 , 155 , 174 175 189 , 198 199 ], Fe/Al [ 200 ], Mo [ 201 ], or In [ 187 ] were sputtered , the products were oxidized due to reaction with the host liquid and/or air after removing the samples from the vacuum chamber.…”
