Convective heat transfer in the vertical channel flow of a clear fluid adjacent to a nanofluid layer: a two-fluid model

Abstract: A two-fluid vertical channel flow and convective heat transfer model in which one of the two fluids is a nanofluid demonstrates that the nanofluid can modify the fluid velocity at the interface of the two fluids, and can be used to reduce shear at both the surface of the clear fluid and the interface of the two fluids. Moreover, we find that the addition of a nanofluiod can favorably modify thermal properties of the fluid.

“…The resulting boundary value problem is solved via boundary value problem solver in MAPLE 12. In our paper, the similar model, Gorder et al [15], is reconsidered; some modifications are proposed for the definitions of the physical parameters, namely, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, heat source or sink parameter, Prandtl numbers, and Grashof number. The problem is solved by using a recently developed software package BVPH 2.0 available online (http://numericaltank.sjtu.edu.cn/BVPh.htm).…”

“…Rajeev and Mahanthesh 17 studied multi-layer flow of nanofluids in the presence of nonlinear Boussinesq approximation by utilizing differential transform method. Multi-layered time dependent fluid flow on a flat plate with various fluid types was later studied by Devakar et al 18 Fully formed two-layer fluid flow was described by Van Gorder et al 19 as occurring between parallel plates with nanofluid occupying one area and transparent fluid covering the other. Farooq and Zhi-Liang 20 demonstrated the flow inversion phenomena for relatively high buoyant force and offered new nondimensional quantities for physical parameters.…”

“…The problem of mixed convection in a vertical porous channel for nanofluids and pure fluids was investigated by Memari et al [23] and they take the influences of viscous heating and inertial force into account. Van Gorder et al [24] analyzed a twofluid vertical channel flow in mixed convection with clear fluid and nanofluid. They declared that the addition of nanofluid modified thermal properties of the fluid favorably.…”
