Conventional and laser-assisted machining of laser-borided Monel 400 alloy

Abstract: This study concentrates on comparing effects of conventional and laser-assisted machining (LAM) of laser borided Monel 400 alloy. For this purpose, the shaft made from Monel 400 was covered with 200 µm thick boron layer and surface melted using diode laser. For determining the in uence of laser beam scanning velocity on nal microstructure, microhardness and depth of melting, four laser beam scanning velocities were set: 5, 6, 8 and 10 m/min. Obtained microstructures are typical for laser melted metal and are c… Show more

“…IDİ uzun yıllardır uygulanan bir yöntemdir [15]. Ön ısıtma sayesinde takım tezgâhının güç tüketimi düşer [16], kesme kuvvetleri [17] ve takım aşınması azalır [18]. Ön ısıtmanın sağladığı olumlu etki talaş kaldırma oranının (TKO) artmasını sağlar [19].…”

“…There are many methods of surface strengthening of parts, including surface modification 7 and surface mechanical deformation strengthening 8 . Surface modification includes laser processing 9 and electrochemical processing 10 . Physical or chemical machining methods are used to form new structures on the surface of the part, thereby improving surface performance.…”
