Convergence Towards 4G: A Novel View of Integration

Abstract: Integration and convergence of different access technology is a key concept of 4G systems. This integration also includes the interface among terrestrial and aero-space components, whose importance has been so far under-estimated and not deeply understood. In this paper, a layered model of the 4G integrated network vision is introduced, highlighting details about the aero-space component. The concept of integration is discussed under different viewpoints, particularly highlighing integration among aero-space s… Show more

“…The current requirements of mobile phones are: high-speed internet; good voice quality; and a good processor that requires extra bandwidth for quick transmission. These requirements of communication systems are fulfilled by Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) [1]. The major drawback with OFDM is out of band (OOB) emission with low spectral efficiency [2,3].…”

“…The fast development of communication technologies, enhanced devices, and multimedia services will lead to a drastic change in the way of perceiving and interacting with the world around us [1]. The emerging 5G systems would transform current reality into a "connected reality", in which objects and people are interconnected in a unified whole [2].…”
