Cooperative Energy Management of Hybrid DC Renewable Grid Using Decentralized Control Strategies

Abstract: This paper attempted to control a hybrid DC microgrid in islanded operation mode using decentralized power management strategies. Proposed adaptive I/V characteristic for hybrid photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) and wind turbine generator (WTG) adapts the distributed energy resources (DER) behavior independently in accordance with the load demand. Hence, the PV module can spend its maximum power on load demand and spend the extra power for charging the BESS, which will regulate DC bus … Show more

“…The combination of the photovoltaic module changes the output characteristics of the voltage and current of the DC power, and it determines the topology of the photovoltaic power converter. In this paper, it is assumed that the photovoltaic system operates by the MPPT through Equations (16) to (17) [17].…”

“…R is the turbine radius in (m), V w is the wind speed in (m/s), and ω is the turbine angular speed in (rad/s). Figure 4 shows power characteristics of a typical wind turbine with β = zero and variable speed operation [30][31][32][33]. Figure 5 shows the variation of C p versus λ with different values of β as described by (2).…”

“…Therefore, off-grid systems always have a combination of AC and DC generation and conversion to AC at the point of common coupling (PCC) for feeding AC loads [20,21]. Further, the reported research on power control and management is presented in [22][23][24][25][26][27], an application of NERs combinations in [28], the controller design, and the stability analysis strengthening off-grid configurations are detailed in [29][30][31][32]. The effective control is required to operate various power converters and generators at maximum efficiency to extract the utmost power from NERs, as and when available.…”
