Cooperative Hybrid Transmit Beamforming in Cell-Free mmWave MIMO Networks

Abstract: Hybrid precoders and combiners are designed for cooperative cell-free multi-user millimeter wave (mmWave) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cellular networks for low complexity interference mitigation. Initially, we derive an optimal hybrid transmit beamformer (HTBF) for a broadcast scenario considering both total and per access point (AP) power constraints. Next, an optimal successive hybrid beamformer technique is proposed for unicast and multicast scenarios which relies on the optimal minimum variance d… Show more

“…Moreover, a theoretical analysis on the impact of imperfect state information of beams was presented, from both instantaneous and ergodic aspects, to verify the robustness of the proposed hybrid scheme. Jafri et al [181] developed optimal hybrid beamformers for broadcast, unicast and multicast mmWave CF-mMIMO systems in the presence of interuser/intergroup interference. Moreover, they developed a successive UL hybrid beamforming scheme that maximizes the SINR.…”

“…Therefore, 5G uses millimeter wave massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) to meet user requirements. MIMO will employ antennas in large numbers at the base station and possibly even in user equipment when millimeter wave (mmWave) [ 3 ] bands are used [ 4 ]. MIMO greatly improves the space utilization and improves the throughput of the communication system.…”
