Coordinated Multi-Point Transmission: A Poisson-Delaunay Triangulation Based Approach

Abstract: Coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission is a cooperating technique among base stations (BSs) in a cellular network, with outstanding capability at inter-cell interference (ICI) mitigation. ICI is a dominant source of error, and has detrimental effects on system performance if not managed properly. Based on the theory of Poisson-Delaunay triangulation, this paper proposes a novel analytical model for CoMP operation in cellular networks. Unlike the conventional CoMP operation that is dynamic and needs on-lin… Show more

“…The motivation of this paper comes from the works [30], [31], where the Poisson-Delaunay triangulation was exploited to model the 2D cellular networks for terrestrial UEs. A similar idea is employed in this paper to provide service for aerial UAVs, which benefits by maximizing the use of existing cellular network infrastructure and providing reliable communication connectivity for UAVs, in addition to terrestrial UEs.…”

“…The work of [ 14 ] studies the control plane protocols for cooperative communications and proposes a novel coordination architecture to enhance the performance of multi-cell cooperative cellular networks. The study of [ 15 ] proposes a Poisson-Delaunay-triangulation-based method to allow the cooperating BS set of the user equipment (UE) to be fixed and off-line as determined by the BSs’ location information. The research of [ 16 ] proposes a deep-learning-based scheme to enhance the throughput of the DL CoMP in heterogeneous 5G NR networks.…”

“…If the resource of one cell is not sufficient, we perform offloading by transmitting edge UEs to the neighboring cells with DCS. Previous works apply a fixed cooperating set [ 15 ]. Though these methods are easy to work with, they are not flexible and also cannot adjust the set to fit a real traffic scenario.…”

“…In this type of Voronoi diagrams, a Euclidean distance is the only parameter in generating the Voronoi regions. These diagrams were generated in MATLAB software (2013) base on The ''Delaunay Triangulation'' method (Chai et al, 2020;Li et al, 2020;Shankar et al, 2020). The Delaunay triangulation of a discrete point set P in general positions corresponds to the dual graphs of the Voronoi diagrams for P. The circumcenters of Delaunay triangles are the vertices of the Voronoi diagram.…”
