Metrics & More Article Recommendations O ver 19 years Professor Francoise M. Winnik served on Langmuir's editorial team, first as a senior editor, next as its executive editor, and finally as its EIC from 2014 until 2019. She was a tireless supporter of the colloids, interfaces, and materials science community and a role model for women in science. Winning the Urgel-Archambault Prize from ACFAS highlighted her contributions to the physical sciences. Professor Winnik earned her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at the National School of Chemistry in Mulhouse, France, in 1973, followed by an M.Sc. in 1974 and a Ph.D. in 1979 at the University of Toronto, where her focus was on organic synthesis. Following 12 years in the private sector, Professor Winnik became an associate professor at McMaster University in Canada and thereafter took positions at the University of Helsinki in Finland in 2018 and the University of Montreal in 2000. Her international commitment was further illustrated by her efforts as a principal investigator at the WPI International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics of the National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba, Japan, which she joined in 2011. Professor Winnik's science was wide-ranging, as a look at some of her highly cited papers 1−25 illustrates. This special issue celebrates her career with contributions from colleagues across the world. The included papers represent many topical areas, including microgels, elastomers, microbubbles, microemulsions, supramolecular assemblies, and thin films, with critical physical properties enabling applications as broad-ranging as carbon capture, medicine, and electronics. 26−54 Nonetheless, many of the papers are fundamental in nature, reflecting Professor Winnik's enduring commitment to and interest in basic colloid and interfacial science.
