Copolymers of N-cyclohexylacrylamide and n-butyl acrylate: synthesis, characterization, monomer reactivity ratios and mean sequence length

Abstract: Abstract. Copolymerization of N-cyclohexylacrylamide (NCHA) and n-butyl acrylate (BA) was carried out in dimethylformamide at 55±1°C using azobisisobutyronitrile as a free radical initiator. The copolymers were characterized by 1 H-NMR spectroscopy and the copolymer compositions were determined by 1 H-NMR analysis. The reactivity ratios of the monomers were determined by both linear and non-linear methods. The reactivity ratios of monomers determined using linear methods like Fineman-Ross (r1 = 0.37 and r2 = 1… Show more

“…As shown in Table , the values of the product of r 1 and r 2 for the copolymer series range from 0.95 to 1.04. As these values diverge further from unity, the distribution will become less random . The results of the monomer reactivity ratio of the copolymer series indicate that the constructed copolymer series were polymerized by nearly random copolymerization.…”

“…NCMA monomer was synthesised as follows (Cankaya and Temuz, 2014;Chitra et al, 2010;Pazhanisamy and Reddy, 2007). Methacryloyl chloride (12 mmoles) in 30 mL pure acetone was added drop by drop to a solution of 10 mmoles cyclohexylamine and 10 mmoles triethylamine in 250 mL pure acetone, over a one-hour period at 0-5°C, and the reaction contents were stirred.…”

“…These polymers might identify a stimulus as a signal and then react with a considerable change in their properties (Okano, 1998). For example, substituted meth/acrylamides are used as polymer and thermosensitive materials (Pazhanisamy and Reddy, 2007;Ari et al, 2013), and polymers which can adapt to surrounding environments by changing shape with thermal and electrical signals are used as thermosensitive polymers (Lu et al, 2013(Lu et al, , 2015.…”
