Copper(II) and cobalt(II) salt complexes with 2,6-dimethyl-3.5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid dihydrazide

Abstract: Complexes of 2,6 dimethyl 3,5 pyridinedicarboxylic acid dihydrazide (DH) with copper(II) and cobalt(II) nitrates and sulfates have been studied by IR and UV spectroscopy, DTA, and X ray crystallogra phy. The complexation results in polynuclear compounds of the {[M(DH)(ROH) n ]An m } z composition (M = Cu 2+ , Co 2+ ; An = ; R = H, i Pr; n = 0.5-4, m = 1.2, z ≥ 4) containing bidentate DH bridges coordinated to the metal through the carbonyl oxygen atom and the amino group nitrogen atom of the hydrazide moiety.

“…The ring wagging vibration of the pyridine group is also observed in the 685 cm -1 region for the complex. The presence of weak band at 594 cm -1 can be assigned to the stretching vibration of the Cu-N bond [33]. The absorption peak at 436 cm -1 is from the stretching vibration of the Cu-O bond [34].…”

“…The chain extender (DH) was synthesized by refluxing an alcohol solution of diethyl 2.6-dimethyl-3.5-piridinedicarboxylate with an excess of hydrazine hydrate as describe in [15]. Polyurethanes were prepared by a two-step procedure under an argon atmosphere.…”
