Copper–lead selenite bromides: a new large family of compounds partly having Cu2+ substructures derivable from kagome nets

Abstract: 27 Br 3.54 )(SeO 3 ) 4 Br 2 ), all but one exhibiting new complex layered or open-framework architectures, organized via the host-guest principle. Five of these structures contain only bivalent copper: three with well ordered 2D structures and completely filled atomic positions, two structures have 3D frameworks. The four remaining compounds contain both, Cu 2+ and Cu + , and comprise layers formed by edge-and vertex-sharing of oxocentered OCu 2+ 4-n Pb n tetrahedra decorated with SeO 3 2À and Br À anions. “…Formation of "guest" metal-chloride species with Cu + cations in the channels is characteristic for fumarolic minerals: averievite, Cu 5 O 2 (VO 4 )•nMCl x (M = Cu, Cs, Rb, K) (Vergasova et al, 1998;Kornyakov et al, 2021) and aleutite, Cu 5 O 2 (AsO 4 )(VO 4 )•(Cu 0.5 □ 0.5 )Cl (Siidra et al, 2019b). A similar phenomenon was observed in the family of copper-lead selenite bromides (Siidra et al 2018b) (Pekov et al, 2018b). Note that both these fumarolic minerals contain…”

“…The topology of the [O 2 Cu 6 ] 8+ chain in Cu 9 O 2 (VO 4 ) 4 Cl 2 is very similar to the [Si 2 O 6 ] 4– silicate chain in the minerals of the pyroxene group, where each SiO 4 tetrahedron is replaced by an oxocentered OCu 4 tetrahedron. The [O 2 Cu 6 ] 8+ chains in Cu 9 O 2 (VO 4 ) 4 Cl 2 are known in Cu 2+ oxysalts , and can be described as fragments of kagome-nets . Note that Cu2 and Cu6 do not form Cu–O a bonds with additional oxygen atoms, and thus are not parts of the oxocentered tetrahedra.…”

“…Thus the topology of bands is novel and has not been described before in minerals and synthetic materials. bands described previously in the structures of complex synthetic oxyhalide selenites (Kovrugin et al ., 2015; Siidra et al ., 2018 a ) contain only corner sharing between the neighbouring OCu 4 tetrahedra. However, bands in aleutite can be cut from the layers described in [Cu 2+ 6 Pb 3 O 4 ](Cu + Pb 1.27 Br 3.54 )(SeO 3 ) 4 Br 2 (Siidra et al ., 2018 a ).…”
