Copy-number variation of housekeeping gene rpl13a in rat strains selected for nervous system excitability

Abstract: We evaluated copy number variation (CNV) for four genes in rat strains differing in nervous system excitability. rpl13a copy number is significantly reduced in hippocampus and bone marrow in rats with a high excitability threshold and stress. The observed phenomenon may be associated with a role for rpl13a in lipid metabolism.

“…The VRN1 gene is present as a single copy per haploid genome; thus, the gene is a good example of a low-copy-number target. Although GW techniques are believed to be better suited to multi-copy targets 23 , here PST-PCR successfully captured a single-copy target.…”

“…To date, these rat strains have not been genotyped, which makes it difficult to find a connection between the microbiome and the genetic characteristics of the host. However, in animals with genetically determined contrast excitability, not only behavioral differences were revealed, it is known that highly excitable rats (LT) have increased thyroid and HPA axis activity (high basal corticosterone level), higher levels of dopamine in the amygdala, higher levels of calcium in the brain and calmodulin in the hippocampus compared to the HT strain [ 39 ].…”
