“…The pro‐inflammatory cytokines TNF‐α, IL–1β, IL‐6, IL‐8, and IL‐18 are among the most promising biomarkers for predicting morbidity and mortality (Butt, Kurdowska, & Allen, 2016). LPS‐induced ALI models resemble certain features of human ALI; cordycepin is found to markedly reduce neutrophil accumulation and MPO activity in lung tissues, decrease the production of inflammatory cytokines including TNF‐α, IL‐6, and IL‐1β, and attenuate lung inflammation in this model probably by the activation of Nrf2 and up‐regulation of HO‐1 expression (J. Lei et al, 2018; Qing et al, 2018). The inhibitory effect of cordycepin on TNF‐α and IL‐6 secretion is attenuated by prior administration of SnPP, a potent HO‐1 inhibitor, implicating that cordycepin confers protection against ALI via activation of HO‐1.…”
