Corneal irregularity and visual function using anterior segment optical coherence tomography in TGFBI corneal dystrophy

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate corneal irregular astigmatism of patients with granular and lattice corneal dystrophy (GCD and LCD). 70 GCD, 35 LCD, and 81 control eyes were included. Anterior and posterior corneal topographic data obtained from anterior segment optical coherence tomography were expanded into four components via Fourier harmonic analysis. These components were compared with healthy eyes and the association between each component and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was investigate… Show more

“…Two characteristic clinical patterns of recurrence were noted after FALK. First, at the subepithelial region that arose nearer to the graft–host junction and faded centrally (morphologically resembling the recurrence pattern after PTK 2 ) and second, at the graft–host interface. Recurrence was notably in the subepithelial region in all 5 eyes managed with FALK and at the graft–host interface in 1 eye.…”

“…Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been a widely adopted diagnostic tool in the clinical characterization of corneal dystrophies because it helps to ascertain the level of deposits better than slitlamp evaluation alone. 2 Phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) is a preferred modality for treating superficial deposits localized around the Bowman layer and has been used successfully in improving visual acuity in eyes with RBCD. 3,4 Superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty-manual, automated, or femtosecond laser assisted-is the alternative method of management.…”

“…The OCT scanner is now widely implemented throughout healthcare, such as ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, and dentistry [ 8 12 ]. In ophthalmology, the OCT is routinely used to aid the diagnosis of various conditions, including retinal diseases[ 13 ], glaucoma [ 14 ], and cornea diseases[ 15 ]. OCT scans are widely implemented in helping the decision-making for macular diseases, such as anti-vascular treatment for macular edema in central retina vein occlusion [ 16 ], age-related macular degeneration [ 17 ], and diabetic macular edema [ 18 ].…”
