Corneal thickness measurements with the Orbscan Topography System and ultrasonic pachymetry

Abstract: In both studies, the Orbscan system obtained statistically significantly different and higher values for corneal thickness. Regression analysis suggests that over the range of values in this study, the two devices differ by a constant amount (intercept and slope). The nonzero intercept of this regression shows that the values from the devices differ and cannot be directly substituted for each other. We therefore conclude that in this study, Orbscan system measurements of corneal thickness were 23 to 28 microm … Show more

“…Other studies have therefore looked at slit-scanning and optical coherence techniques and compared them with US. [3][4][5][6][7] In a recent study undertaken on Chinese individuals, Wong et al 6 suggest that the results obtained with Orbscan and US are comparable clinically. This finding is not supported by previous studies, and we therefore undertook a similar study in Europeans to see whether these results could be duplicated.…”

“…Ultrasound Techniques which most commonly in use are Conventional Ultrasonic Pachymetry & Ultrasound Biomocroscopy (UBM). [7] Optical Techniques include Manual optical pachymetry, Specular microscopy, [8] Scanning slit lamp corneal topography, [9] Optical Coherence Tomography, [10] Optical low coherence interferometry, [11] Confocal microscopy, [12] Laser Doppler interferometry. Recent techniques like Pentacam, Pachycam, Ocular Response Analyzer (ORA) are also in use.…”
