Abstract: Ocular rubbing should be avoided prior to standard corneal topography. The increased surface regularity index may reflect the alterations of the tear film and/or the molding of the corneal surface.

“…21 These findings might also be related to a rearrangement of the tear film. 21,23 Steep K and astigmatism measurements obtained with the Atlas Placido-based system showed a similar pattern. There was a tendency toward a reduction in values 15 days and 2 months after BTX-A application.…”

“…For example, gentle digital massage through the closed lid for 1 minute by 15 healthy subjects resulted in a mean IOP decrease of 2.4 mm Hg. 19 However, in the current study, it appears likely that any massage effect on IOP caused by the application of digital forces may have been obscured by the size and volatility of the IOP increments recorded.…”

“…38 For example, gentle digital massage through the closed lid for 1 minute by 15 healthy subjects resulted in a mean IOP reduction of 2.4 mm Hg. 39 It is possible that the repeated application of digital forces to the eye used in this study could be associated with reduction in IOP as a series of measurements progressed. Notwithstanding this possibility, significant increases in IOP were recorded for all experimental conditions, although a massage effect may have increased measurement variance.…”
