This paper describes the design and implementation of a lexicon of Dutch multiword expressions (MWEs). No exhaustive research on a standard lexical representation of MWEs has been done for Dutch before. The approach taken is innovative, since it is based on the Equivalence Class Method. Furthermore, the selection of the lexical entries and their properties is corpus-based. The design of the lexicon and the standard representation will be tested in Dutch NLP systems. The purpose of the current paper is to give an overview of the decisions made in order to come to a standard lexical representation and to discuss the description fields this representation comprises.

This article describes the design and implementation of a Dutch Electronic Lexicon of Multiword Expressions (DuELME). DuELME describes the core properties of over 5,000 Dutch multiword expressions. This article gives an overview of the decisions made in order to come to a standard lexical representation and discusses the description fields this representation comprises. We discuss the approach taken, which is innovative since it is based on the Equivalence Class Method (ECM). It is shown that introducing parameters to the ECM optimizes the method. The selection of the lexical entries and their properties is corpus-based. We describe the extraction of candidate expressions from corpora and discuss the selection criteria of the lexical entries. Moreover, we present the results of an evaluation of the standard representation in Alpino, a Dutch dependency parser.

Abstract. We present an Access database that will help to analyze and classify Portuguese MWEs according to their linguistic properties. We used a subset of an existing lexicon of Portuguese MWEs that was extracted from a corpus using Mutual Information as a statistical measure, followed by manual validation. The lexicon is organized in a three-level structure: the main lemmas, the group lemmas and the variants of those groups. This subset was imported to the database together with linguistic information about the MWEs and their variants (morphosyntactic structure, syntactic category, frequency, MI, grammatical function, discursive function, etc.). A semantic and syntactic fine-grained typology was established, and, by selecting a particular MWE, we can classify it with respect to its degree of semantic decomposability and syntactic transformation. The database is highly customizable and enables the addition/deletion of semantic or syntactic categories considered important throughout the analysis. In the end, all the information of the database will be exported to a XML format, resulting in a lexicon enriched with linguistic information.
