“…The use of batten grafting to support the caudal septum was first described by Dingman, and several studies have since reported on this procedure. [10][11][12][13][14][15][16] Batten grafting can be performed either via endonasal or external approaches. Harvested septal cartilage has typically been used as the batten graft material, although some studies recently reported on the usefulness of nasal septal bone for deviated caudal septum correction.…”

“…Subsequently, many septoplasty techniques have been introduced by various authors. These include the crosshatching incision, 4 wedge resection, 5 suture techniques with incision or excision of cartilage 6,7 and cartilage graft techniques 8,9 . Despite these procedures, complete correction of a deviated cartilage is difficult.…”

“…16 Metzinger et al described a technique of applying perpendicular plate of ethmoid bone, and Dyer offered an alternative plating technique to maintain the caudal end of the septum in the midline. [26][27][28] Kridel et al described the "tongue-in-groove" technique for the management of the caudal septum, finding that by securing the caudal septum between the medial crura, the caudal septum is held in place in the midline. 29 Placing the caudal septum between the medial crura has also been shown to provide outstanding tip support.…”
