Correlación de la cistatina C con el filtrado glomerular valorado por CKD-EPI y MDRD en pacientes con insuficiencia hepática crónica descompensada secundaria a etilismo

Abstract

Background: Cystatin C has been shown to be more sensitive for the early detection of renal dysfunction compared to creatinine levels, reflecting better the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). This study attempted to demonstrate the relationship of cystatin C with GFR assessed by CKD-EPI and MDRD in patients with decompensated chronic liver failure secondary to alcoholism. Methods: In this cross-sectional analytical study, we included 30 patients from the General Hospitals of Xoco and Tláhuac from Mexico City´s Health Department. Laboratory determinations were made, and the severity scale and GFR were estimated. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20 and STATA program. Results: We found a negative correlation between cystatin C, CKD-EPI (p = 0.0002) and MDRD (p = 0.0002), and a positive correlation with creatinine levels (p = 0.0007). Conclusions: There was a positive correlation between cystatin C and GFR determined by CKD-EPI / MDRD in patients with chronic liver failure secondary to alcoholism. (Hosp Med
