“…In addition to this, the geographical location of the island in terms of access to care is also challenging. In the current context, the economic, medical, social, and human stakes are considerable, and the question that needs to be addressed is to what extent does living in Guadeloupe have an impact on the care of the elderly population [11,12]. It is of particular importance to identify the factors associated with undernutrition in this context, especially since certain modifiable risk factors are susceptible to influence by the geographic, psycho-socio-cultural, and ethno-anthropological environment.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, in the Caribbean region [20][21][22] and in Guadeloupe in particular [23], very few studies have investigated falls and fall severity in our region [20][21][22]. Guadeloupe (an island in the French West Indies) is a territory with speci c characteristics, namely a high prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, presence of atypical Parkinsonian syndrome, amongst other issues, with the prospect of rapid ageing of the population in the coming years [24][25][26]. The aim of this study was therefore to identify the factors associated with fall severity (as assessed by need for hospitalization) in patients aged 70 years and over attending the emergency department in Guadeloupe.…”
