“…There were publications on comorbidities in SC patients, HRQoL after treatment and many studies dedicated to different aspects of QoL in different populations of SC patients including studies on behaviour modification, predictors of QoL, predictors of survival, supportive care needs, coping strategies and fear of cancer recurrence…”

“…34 Siegel and colleagues evaluated 930, mostly elderly, male patients, presenting to the VA health care system. 35 The Skindex-29, SCI, and six study-specific questions were administered to each patient. The authors found that worse postoperative QOL was associated with younger age, greater functional impairments, greater comorbidities, increased sun exposure, as well as history of 5-fluorouracil use (presumably a proxy for prior skin carcinoma treatment).…”

“…The authors found that worse postoperative QOL was associated with younger age, greater functional impairments, greater comorbidities, increased sun exposure, as well as history of 5-fluorouracil use (presumably a proxy for prior skin carcinoma treatment). 35 For the head and neck area including the face, quality of life following skin cancer treatment is likely to be heavily impacted by the reconstruction. Unfortunately, studies that have utilized HRQOL as the main outcomes measure following skin cancer reconstructive procedures are significantly lacking.…”

“…The very few studies available have shown lower HRQoL in younger patients and a larger improvement in HRQoL after Mohs micrographic surgery in younger vs. older patients. 2 However, we need to use a disease-specific questionnaire, for example that recently developed by Waalboer-Spuij et al 3 Capturing the influence of all aspects of BCC diagnosis and treatment on HRQoL remains necessary. Our group is currently studying HRQoL in a large number of patients with keratinocyte carcinomas (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04814953).…”
