Correlation Analysis between the Contents of Zinc (Zn) in Soil and Corn Seeds on Lime Main Material

Abstract

Zinc (Zn) plays a crucial role in agriculture, especially in supporting protein synthesis and the formation of chlorophyll, which is essential for photosynthesis. Zn deficiency can negatively impact plant growth, reduce crop yields, and affect the quality of plant nutrition. This research focuses on limestone soil in Kota Soe Subdistrict and Kuatae Village, which is alkaline and affects the availability of Zn for local corn plants. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between Zn content in soil and corn seeds in soil made from limestone. The methodology involves taking soil and corn kernel samples from various locations, considering altitude and farming practices. Zn analysis was performed using wet ashing atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The Pearson correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between Zn content in the soil and corn kernels. The results show a linear relationship between Zn content in soil and corn kernels, with a correlation coefficient of 0.1102, indicating that increasing Zn in limestone soil can increase Zn content in corn kernels. However, factors such as the soil type, pH, water availability, climate, and agricultural practices add complexity to this relationship. These findings are important for soil management and agricultural strategies in the area to optimize Zn content in corn grain production.
