Correlation of inflammatory cytokines on corrected QT interval in rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis patients

Abstract: Background The cases of Rifampicin-Resistant Tuberculosis (RR-TB) in our country have increased every year and RR-TB deaths are thought to be caused by prolongation of the QTc interval due to side effects of anti-tuberculosis drugs. Thus, cytokines are needed to be used as early markers of prolongation of the QTc interval in RR-TB patients. Objective This study aims to analyze the correlation of inflammatory cytokines on QTc interval in RR-TB patients who received short… Show more

“…Suspicion of tuberculous meningitis can be considered when the patient lives in the territory of countries with endemic tuberculosis such as Indonesia [ 8 , 9 ]. The diagnosis of tuberculosis can be made using GeneXpert MTB/RIF for fast and efficient confirmation [ 10 , 11 ].…”

“…Management of disseminated tuberculosis is generally similar to new cases of tuberculosis, which is providing ATD category 1 for 12 months according to the management of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. The ATD category 1 consists of 2 months treatment with rifampin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol, and 10 months with rifampin and isoniazid [ 11 , 13 ]. In our case, streptomycin was added because streptomycin has stronger ability to penetrate the blood brain barrier where the patient also had tuberculous meningitis.…”

“…A study stated that HRCT-Scan was more effective than bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in a comparison (90.6% vs 70%) to identify SSc-ILD [ 7 ]. Pulmonary tuberculosis examination is considered because the patient is at risk of tuberculosis due to T2DM, lives in endemic tuberculosis country, and the chest x-ray shows typical feature of pulmonary tuberculosis as a differential diagnosis [ 8 , 9 ].…”

“…[2][3][4][5] Pulmonary tuberculosis has a long disease course and is prone to recurrence. [6,7] It has a major effect on exercise endurance and lung function. If patients are not provided with appropriate remedial interventions, the change in exercise tolerance and lung dysfunction can have a major impact on their quality of life.…”
