Correlation of pain sensitivity and the humoral immune response in mice during thermal stimulation

Abstract: A hypothesis about a correlation between threshold pain sensitivity and antibody production is proposed and experimentally validated. Immunodeficient mouse strains are characterized by a higher threshold sensitivity to pain than animals with a normal immune response. A highly reliable negative correlation between threshold sensitivity to pain assessed by the hot plate test and the number of antibody-producing cells in the spleen after immunization with sheep red cells is observed in 77% of (CBAxC57B1/ 6) F 1 m… Show more

“…Our fi ndings indicate that changes in these parameters are specifi c and depend on the period of study and type of immune reactions during antigenic stimulation. These results complement published data on the relationship between nociception and immune status of animals [1,4]. However, the contribution of individual cytokines in the regulation of nociceptive sensitivity in mammals during antigenic stimulation remains unknown.…”

“…According to the opinion of a few experimenters [26], the first behavioral defensive phenomena in the hot-plate test (taking off and licking of the limbs) constitute the motor components of the response to nociceptive sensations, and these effects characterize the PT. The subsequent manifestations (jumpings, vocalization, etc.)…”
