Correlation of progesterone levels on the day of oocyte retrieval with basal hormonal status and the outcome of ART

Abstract: This study aimed to assess whether basal hormonal levels can predict the levels of progesterone (P4) on the day of oocyte retrieval (OR) and examine the impact of P4 levels on the day of OR on the outcome of assisted reproduction. One hundred sixty-four patients that were enrolled in the assisted reproduction procedure were classified according to their P4 levels on the OR day (< 2 ng/ml vs. ≥ 2 ng/ml). Patients who had P4 levels < 2 ng/ml had significantly higher follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level… Show more

“…One study 59 reported LBR at threshold level > 2ng/ml; one study 57 reported OPR at threshold level > 11.7ng/ml; three studies [57][58][59] reported CPR at different threshold levels > 2ng/ml, > 11.7ng/ml and > 12ng/ml; two studies 58,59 reported MR at threshold levels > 2ng/ml and > 12ng/ml. Data from single studies were summarised in Supplementary Table S3.…”

“…Serum levels of hormones (especially estradiol and progesterone) vary during COH and influence pregnancy outcome for patients treated with IVF-ET ( 53 , 107 , 108 ). According to the studies mentioned above ( 37 , 38 , 49 51 ), cell experiments and clinical data showed GDF-8 expression to be related to levels of estrogen and progesterone.…”

“…There is a broad consensus that the use of progesterone (Pg) is recommended for the luteal phase support in IVF [7,36,37,38]. Cochrane meta-analysis showed a higher LBR in patients receiving progesterone compared to those without it, with no differences in the applied doses or administration routes (vaginal, parenteral) [39].…”
