Correlation of spicule sign on computed tomography scans with peripheral lung cancers associated with interstitial lung disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between spicular signs on computed tomography (CT) scans and peripheral lung cancer (PLC) that is associated with interstitial lung disease (ILD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We analyzed clinical data from 96 PLC cases and grouped patients based on whether they had interstitial pneumonia into either ILD/COPD group or non-ILD/COPD group. The occurrence rate of spicule sign was 90.3% in the ILD/COPD group and 61.8% in t… Show more

“…However, lobulation and small spinous protuberances may form when the growth rate around the tumor is different or obstructed by adjacent lung stents. There was a significant correlation between the appearance of spicule sign on CT and peripheral lung cancer that was associated with interstitial lung disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [5]. Inflammatory nodules are usually caused by inappropriate treatment of acute inflammation or chronic formation at the beginning.…”

“…(4) All the right cardiac margins were not visualized, and the silhouette sign suggested that the lesion was located in the middle lobe of the right lung. (5) The lower segment of aorta and pulmonary artery were not visualized, and the contour sign suggested the lesion of the anterior segment of the left upper lobe. (6) The blurred edge of the aortic node was caused by the lesion of the posterior segment of the left upper apex or the change of adjacent lymph nodes.…”
