Correlations of geotechnical monitoring data in open pit slope back-analysis -A mine case study

Abstract: Geotechnical monitoring plays an important role in the detection of operational safety issues in the slopes of open pits. Currently, monitoring companies offer several solutions involving robust technologies that boast highly reliable data and the ability to control risky conditions. The monitoring data must be processed and analysed so as to allow the results to be used for several purposes, thereby providing information that can be used to manage operational actions and optimize mining plans or engineering p… Show more

“…In surface mines, analyses of the results of geotechnical measurements represent one of the methods for the continuous monitoring of the safety of mining operations. Observations of the factors which may contribute to slope failure, for example, surface and subsurface displacements, or changes in the pore-water pressure and groundwater level, allow the behavior of earth masses during stacking operations to be predicted and controlled on an ongoing basis (Silva et al, 2021).…”

“…Based on the performed analysis and the assumed evaluation criteria, appropriate measures can be taken to ensure adequate safety and optimize mining processes (Jiang & Feng, 2011;Silva et al, 2021). In order to enable appropriate actions aimed at an optimal operation of the stacking machine without deteriorating the geotechnical conditions, the readings from the measuring instruments must be compared with the critical and the warning values defined in the previous step.…”

“…The field monitoring and analysis of the cutoff wall in Daning Reservoir is a typical geotechnical safety monitoring and analysis. At present, the safety monitoring and data analysis method in geotechnical engineering is widely used [ [14] , [15] , [16] , [17] ], its performance is closely related to the design scheme, such as the verification and perfection of the arch dam test load method theory [ 18 ], verification of the stress and strain characteristics and calculation assumptions of mass concrete [ [19] , [20] , [21] , [22] ], analysis and determination of permeability and deformation of cutoff wall [ [23] , [24] , [25] ], stability verification of the foundation pit supporting structure [ [26] , [27] , [28] ].…”

“…The surface deformation of the mine slope is a common phenomenon in the mining process, but when the slope deformation is accumulated to a certain extent, it will cause great damage to the mining area, and even geological disasters such as cracks, collapses, and landslides [1]. Due to the influence of many factors, such as the meteorological environment, the geological structure, and the activities of artificial mining, the slope deformation prediction model is generally a complex and nonlinear model [2]. The open-pit slope surface deformation prediction model of is established to analyse the coupling relationship between the factors that affect slope deformation and the amount of direct deformation, so as to predict and warn the main deformation of the slope in advance, and to take disaster prevention measures in advance to ensure the safety of personnel and properties.…”
