Correspondence. The Treatment of Sewage Sludge by Bacterial Digestion.

Abstract: Cotterell.(a) Reduction of sludge-bed or sludge-lagoon requirements, due to the smaller quantity of sludge to be disposed of after digestion. (b) Reduction of the cost of labour in attending to the sludge, due to its character and absence of liability t o " pond."( C ) Improvement of the value of the neighbouring lands, due to the absence of odour, flies, and unsightly appearance.(d) Considerable improvement in the morale of the attendants, due to the absence of unsightly and odorous areas of sludge.
